SOR MARIA

THIS FOUNDATION LEVEL PROJECT WAS CREATED IN INTRODUCTION TO GRAPHIC DESIGN DURING SPRING ‘12.

This is an album cover for by the song Sor María by the Mexican band Mana. The song was inspired by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, a Catholic nun and poet who spoke out about gender inequalities in the 17th century. The character Sor Maria, however, is a nun who falls in love and finds herself trapped by the church and its rules. The composition was done in watercolor, with an imposed handcuff drawn in ink.
