ROZENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD

THIS POSTER PROJECT WAS CREATED IN PRINT DESIGN AND THE COMPUTER SPRING ‘12

This poster advertises a performance run of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead at the Signature Theater. The imagery was inspired by a scene in the play in which Rosencrantz and Guildenstern board a ship to deliver the order to have Hamlet murdered, but end up getting murdered themselves. This situation is the culmination of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern's struggle to assert themselves, their individuality, their purpose, and their existence. Their journey on the ship represents their inability to control their own destiny; they instead drift through life as if controlled by some greater power. The image of the marionette ship conveys their small scale and limited power in the universe, while the handwritten type highlights their childlike outlook and the humanness of their struggle. This dramatic suspension of time in an infinite space communicates the themes of free will and mortality that run throughout the play.
