About the show



The 2013 AU Design Show is an annual exhibition of student work from American University’s Graphic Design Department. Any student who has taken a design class in the past year can submit. Submitted work is then judged by a select panel of D.C. designers. Pieces with the highest scores are featured in the show.

Carni Klirs

Carni Klirs, an American University Design Program alum, is currently working at Free Range in Dupont doing work with a social conscience. When he isn't pushing pixels, he spends his time rocking out with his local DC band Fell Types (yes, that's a typography reference).

Brandon Schmittling

Brandon Schmittling

Brandon Schmittling is the Director of Experience Design at Weber Shandwick and Creative Director with his own company, Cluster Media. When not pursuing his love of experimental cocktails, Brandon organizes SurviveDC, a non-sponsored, community-supported race through the streets of DC.

Nick Whitmoyer

Nick has served as a board member of the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington in addition to having taught at Boston University CDIA. Nick currently organizes Refresh DC and can be found rubbing elbows at various design and technology events nationwide.

Helen V. Holmes

Helen is a Graphic Design major at American University on the interactive track. Helen fights crime by night and is currently working on sampling all of the cupcake stores in DC at least once.

Raquel Winchester

Raquel is a senior Interactive Design major and Music Performance minor at American University. She loves Zumba fitness and classical singing and plans to take up residence on the beach when she returns to her island home.
