GIRL ANACHRONISM KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY

THIS MOTION PROJECT WAS CREATED IN KINETIC AND SEQUENTIAL GRAPHICS DURING THE SPRING ‘12

Description of Piece: A kinetic typography music video for a selection of the song "Girl Anachronism" by The Dresden Dolls. To me, the song is about the narrator's attempt to explore and explain to the audience her feelings of displacement. In lyrics themselves, and in the original music video, she repeatedly expresses how out of place she is, starting as far back as her birth - she explains that she "was too precarious / removed as a Caesarean" at one point. Throughout the song she expresses a growing psychosis in response to her anachronistic existence. My idea for this video stems from that psychotic manner in which the narrator tells her story. I attempted to illustrate this concept using a simulated handheld camera, a dark color scheme, a "grungy" textured background, and a rough-looking typeface.
